Stucco, Lime Plaster And Lath And Plaster

Stucco is a method we use for exterior work when we are moulding detailed architectural decorations and as a finish to exterior walls where lime and sand and cement will also be used. We like to use stucco because of its durability and the fact that it doesn’t need any maintenance unlike wood and brick it can withstand all weather conditions.

Stucco makes an exterior of a home or building look stunning and can increase property value in cases, it is also very versatile meaning that we can apply it to concrete and wood properties.

Lime Plaster

Lime plaster is another method we use for exterior work which is extremely hard and very durable which is able to last thousands of years. Lime plaster is a type of plaster which is produced by a mixture of hydrated lime, sand and water. We also use the traditional method in which horse hair is introduced so that it sustains plaster.

We like to use this method as lime plaster is very flexible and easy to use and also, as can be expected with buildings with their slight movement, will not crack unlike cement.

Lath and Plaster

Lath and plaster is a traditional method we often use to construct or repair ceiling damage. This is considered heritage work and many councils in London would like to use the same traditional method lath and plaster rather than the later method of plasterboard and skim. We use all the traditional materials such as chestnut oak laths which are very robust and horse hair which acts as a binding agent for the materials.

The benefit of using lath and plaster is it has a far more superior soundproofing quality than plasterboard, enables the ceiling to breathe and become flexible which will in turn reduce cracking over time.
